CycleCities events in Genoa

The 4th Meeting of the CycleCities Project took place in Genoa in Italy between 11th-13th December 2013.

The 4th Steering Committee Meeting took place on the first day during which administrative and financial issues were primarily discussed and reviewed.

The largest event of the 3 day meeting was the 3rd Interregional Forum, held  on the 12th of December. It was a highly interesting event throught which partners and related participants had the chance to familiarize themselves with the Italian cycling planning experience and share knowledge in cycling issues. Participaring speakers  included:
  • Pascal van den Noort, from Velomondial, presented "Enabling cycling cities: ingredients for success" useful guidance to local authorities for effective integration of cycling in urban mobility.
  • Antonio Dalla Venezia - President of the Italian Federation of Friends of the Bicycle (FIAB), analysed the experience of urban mobility in the city of Venice.
  • Luca Studer - Professor of Traffic and Road Safety, Head of Mobility and Transport Laboratory at Milan Polytech.
  • Luisa Casu and Michele Pagani - officials Liguria Region Programs Department, Ports, Transport, Public Works - Planning and evaluation of interventions, presented the strategy, set up and implementation of Liguria’s regional cycling network.
  • Franca Balletti - Professor of Urban planning at the Department of Architecture at the University of Genoa
  • Luca Lazzoni, Mobility Dept. Municipality of Genoa, talked about “Policies and Projects for cycling in Genoa”
  • Alberto Cappato - Director of the Company Porto Antico Spa
  • Marina Parodi - Coop. the Cruna
During the 3rd Interregional Workshop on the 13th of December, two thematic areas were analysed: “Bike sharing systems: two different management schemes” and “Cycling, Tourism & Culture, a mutual strength: projects and solutions for the City”, supported by the following speakers:
  • Clear Channel and Bicincittà, Italian company leader in the international management systems of bike sharing “Bike sharing systems: two different management schemes”.
  • Pietro Ugolini and Francesca Pirlone – respectively Director and Professor of Urban Development Planning, Department of Civil, Environmental and Chemical Engineering, University of Genoa “Cycling, Tourism and Culture, a mutual strength: projects and solutions for the City”.
  • The try-out of the two board games produced by Cyclecities. More specifically, the management game and the board game. Partners launched specific roles, as policy makers or members of the general public and made comments and suggestions to games manuals, for their improvement.
The workshop was also focused on Good Practices issues, collection and selection criteria, synthesis and analysis of results, related to specific Project thematics.

Finally, the framework and the outcomes of the INTERREG IVC Thematic Capitalisation on Sustainable Transport Workshop, held on the 28th of November 2013, in Brussels, were presented and partners were made aware of the importance of capitalizing Project results, specially as far as good practices are concerned.
